A closer look

  • A hand-powered espresso maker with a 52 mm stainless-steel basket for 18 g of finely ground coffee.
  • Add hot water and operate the pump by hand. Grind, distribution and tamping are part of the brewing process.
  • The package includes a protective case, tamper, scoop, brush, distribution tool and funnel.

Coffee prepared by hand

Picopresso puts the basket, water chamber and pump in one small body. You still prepare the coffee: grind it finely, distribute it in the basket and tamp before pumping. The open bottom lets you see the extraction as it reaches the cup.

That arrangement gives it a clear place in a coffee kit. It suits someone who wants to keep preparing espresso while away from a kitchen, including the adjustments that go with a new bag of beans.

What travels with it

The protective case holds the brewer, but the full setup also needs coffee, a cup and a source of hot water. Picopresso has no heater. A room with a kettle is therefore a more useful starting point than an empty picnic table.

Its supplied tamper, funnel and distribution tool keep the smaller preparation pieces together. When planning bag space, lay out the grinder and any scale alongside the case. The brewer's 350 g weight describes one part of that kit.

After the shot

Wacaco specifies rinsing the basket and shower head, then drying the parts separately. Leave room beside the sink for that last step. For travel, a routine that includes drying and repacking matters as much as getting the first cup made.
